Brief History of the Master’s Program in Economics
The Master’s Program in Economics, Udayana University (PSMIE FEB Unud), was established on April 30, 2001, based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 1809/Dikti/Kep/2001. On August 18, 2010, the extension of the program’s operational license was issued through Rector’s Decree No. 3455/D/T/K-2010. After that year, a license extension was no longer required for the continuation of the program. From its establishment until 2017, the administration of the Master’s Program in Economics was under the auspices of the Postgraduate School of Udayana University. Consequently, the Director of the Postgraduate School was the person in charge of the Master’s Program in Economics, Postgraduate School of Udayana University, abbreviated as PSMIE PPs Unud.
In 2017, the PSMIE became part of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Udayana University. Organizationally, the Dean of FEB became the person in charge of the Master’s Program in Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Udayana University, abbreviated as PSMIE FEB Unud. Consequently, the implementation of program activities was determined through the Dean’s Decree of FEB Udayana University. During its early years, up to 2012, the PSMIE offered four concentrations, namely: Regional Development, Regional Finance, Industrial Economics, and Monetary, Fiscal, and Banking. In 2013, the PSMIE introduced an additional concentration — Public and Business Asset Management and Valuation, based on Rector’s Decree No. 271/UN.14/PR/2013. However, this concentration was not immediately offered to students due to several limitations. In 2018, considering the advancement of knowledge and societal needs, the PSMIE FEB Unud reintroduced the Public and Business Asset Management and Valuation concentration and discontinued the Industrial Economics concentration. As a result, the current concentrations offered by PSMIE are (1) Regional Development, (2) Regional Finance, (3) Monetary, Fiscal, and Banking Policy, and (4) Public and Business Asset Management and Valuation.
Regarding the program’s management structure, from its establishment in 2001 until 2014, administrative management was carried out by a Program Chair, assisted by a secretary, and two heads of divisions — namely, the Head of Finance and Administration Division and the Head of Academic Division. In 2014, the internal structure of the program was adjusted to align with the organizational needs at that time. The management responsibilities were carried out by a Program Chair assisted by a secretary. Later, in 2018, the program’s internal management structure was again revised, in which the management responsibilities were assigned to a Study Program Coordinator (Koprodi).
